Academics
Trondheim is the home city of Norway's oldest academic institution. Det Kongelige Norske Videnskabers Selskab (DKNVS) was founded in 1760 under the name Det Trondheimske Selskab.
With a population of around 205 000 and 35 000 students, it's no surprise that a large portion of the city's workers, around 5000, are in some way connected to higher education through DMMH, BI or NTNU.
Akademika
Your curriculum literature can be purchased online. Akademika sells curriculum kits curated to your courses. Simply select your courses, and add the books you wish to purchase.
Art
Trondheim has nurtured many big artists, and there are plenty of museums and galleries in the city. Check out Gallery Ismene, Gallery SG, Trondheim Art Museum, Kjøpmannsgata Ung Kunst, Dropsfabrikken and others for inspiration and provocation.
AtB
How do you travel on a budget? Which route is the quickest way to DMMH? Need information on how to get student discounts, or when the last bus of the night departs?
AtB is Trondheim's public transport company. They service the entire city, and will transport you to Bakkegata, Dalen Hageby, Eggen and all the way from A to Å.

Beaches and saunas
Catch the boat from Ravnkloa to Munkholmen. Along Ladestien you'll find multiple beaches like Grilstad, Hansbakkfjæra, Devlebukta, Ringvebukta, Devlebukta and Korsvika. Additionally, you can go for a swim in Trondheim's lakes, like Lianvannet, Tømmerholtdammen, Theisendammen and Haukvatnet.
If you want to get more out of your day, you can travel to Midtsandtangen in Malvik. Here you can both scate, fish, picnic and play sand volleyball. Væretrøa at Ranheim, Rennebukta in Trolla and Øysand in Melhus are also great beaches to visit.
Sjøbadet is Trondheim's most central place to go for a swim. You can bathe in the summer and winter, and warm up in their sauna afterwards. Bartstua by Ladekaia also has a sauna. You can both come here alone or rent for an entire group of friends. Havet at Nyhavna has food, drinks, concerts and multiple saunas.
Bakklandet
Bakklandet is the part of Trondheim seen on most post cards. Right next to Nidelva, you'll find some narrow streets with old wooden houses and local shops and cafés. Here youi'll find Antikvariatet which hosts many concerts and improv theatre.
Trondheim's has the longest collection of connected, old wooden houses in Northern Europe. The old houses in Bakklandet are a central part of this collection.
"Barteby" - The city of moustaches
Not all Trondheim citizens ("trøndere") have a moustache. "But there is no party without a leather vest!"
Basse
Trondheim's national sport, but variations are also found in Larvik and Marokko. Cut a bicycle tire into small rings and bundle them together to a sort of flat ball. Draw circles on the ground with chalk and stand inside the circle. Now, kick the Basse to one of the other participants. If the Basse lands inside your circle, you'll get minus points.
Tournaments in Basse is hosted in Trondheim.
BI - Norwegian Business School
The institute of business finance is located at Brattøra and has about 1 800 students in Trondheim. Together with DMMH and NTNU, they are a part of the student organization SiT.
Bicycle City
Trondheim has an active aim to reduce the number of new cars on the road to zero. Therefore, there's a big focus on cycling paths in town and you'll find many city bikes available across town.
At Bakklandet, you'll find the world's first bicycle elevator, Trampe, which services the hill between Bybrua and up towards the foretress.
Bryggerekka - Historic Wharves
Along Kjøpmannsgata in Bakklandet and Fjordgata, you'll find the old wharves painted in traditiional Trondheim colors. The wharves have been converted into shops, cafés, galleries, office spaces and apartments.
Bryggemarkedet
The market is found at the end of Kongens gate/Kjøpmannsgata. Every Sunday during the summer months, you'll find a small market here. Anyone can rent a stall and sell anything from toys, crockery and lamps. If you're lucky, maybe someone is selling a leather vest..?
Brewery Festival
At the start of August every year, the Brewery festival is hosted together with the annual Trondheim food festival at the Trondheim plaza. The Brewery festival is a celebration of brew, specialty beer and hand brewed beer. You can learn about old traditions, discover new flavors and gain insight into which type of beer fits best for different food dishes.
Burma Rock
Directly behind Dragvold, on the forest path between Bekken farm and Stokkanhaugen, you'll find the Burma Rock - Trondheim's very own Troll's Tongue. Experience the height and snap the perfect photo!
Bybrua - Old Town Bridge
The old town bridge is one of Trondheim's most famous landmarks with its brillian red portal. The bridge has its own song and connects Midtbyen and Bakklandet. It stretches all the way back to 1681 and has become a beloved motif in photos from weddings and tourist outings.
Bymarka
Bymarka is located to the west in Trondheim, and is the city's biggest and most popular hiking spot. Here you'll find multiple staffed cabins such as Skistua, Grønlia, Elgsethytta, Lian and Rønningen. Bymarka has many lakes and great places to swim, many small mountain tops and places to pitch a tent or fish. Parts of Bymarka are protected nature reserves.

Capital of Early Childhood Education
Trondheim was the first city in Norway to offer full kindergarten coverage. With a large research community around children, Trondheim has a strong academic community within research about children and early childhood institutions.
Café Le Frère
Café Le Frère is competing to offer Trondheim's best coffee. Found at the end of Søndre street, you'll find a relaxed atmosphere with old vinyl records and local art on the walls.
Christmas market
The christmas market in Trondheim has been fronted by international media as a market worth visiting. Children's threatre, horse sledding, concerts, arts and crafts and food are only some of the trademarks of the market rooted in long tradition.
Cinemateket
Cinemateket is found in Olavshallen, and shows both classics from movie history and more recent gems.
Cicignon's place
At Cicignon's place you'll find Trondheim Camping, a great place to try your hand at mini golf indoors!
Cinema
Film is the best in a cinema. Most films you'll find in the cinema at Prinsen or Nova, while Trondheim's film club, Cinemateket and Samfundet also have exciting screenings.
Cirka Theatre
Cirka Theatre is found in Nyhavna, and has been a fresh alternative to Trøndelag Theatre for nearly 40 years.
Climbing
Grip Climbing is located at Sluppen and Leangen, while Trondheim Buldresenter is located not far from Solsiden. You can also drop-in here.
The climbing park Høyt og Lavt is near Rotvoll, only a short walk from DMMH.
Concerts
Trondheim is a city of music, and there are plenty of scenes and genres. Uffa, Samfundet, Byscenen, Dokkhuset, Sukkerhuset, Trondheim Spektrum, Moskus, Trykkeriet, Tapperiet, Ila Brainnstasjon, Tyven, Lokal Bar, Fru Lundgren, Verkstedhallen og Lobbyen, Kafe Skuret, Good Omen, Rockheim, Antikvariatet, Olavshallen, Isak, Rosendal Teater and many more means you don't need to look far to find an exciting new artist or band.
Coralua Choir Festival
Coralua is an international choir festival hosted in Trondheim each year.

"One Dahls, please!"
E. C. Dahl owns many properties in Trondheim, but is most famous for its brewery business. Dahls is the traditional Trondheim beer, but they have lately been challenged by local breweries like Austmann. The area aroudn the brewery has hosted many concerts and the Trondheim Rocks festival.

Dragvoll
Dragvoll is situated to the south-east of Trondheim. Here you'll find several of NTNU's institutes.
Drivhuset café
Drivhuset is a café and cultural venue in the center of town, run by and for students. Here you can relax, have a coffee or a bite to eat (for free!), participate in exciting events or simply be. Three days a week, Innom hosts events at Drivhuset.
"Dødens Dal"
Dødens Dal is located close to NTNU Gløshaugen, and has many atheltics fields. During UKA, this is also a concert venue.
Estenstadmarka
Estenstadmarka is a large forest south-east of Trondheim, right behind Dragvoll. From here, there are hiking paths to Rotvoll and you can go for a swim in Tømmerholtdammen, eat cinnamon buns at Estenstadhytta, test your fear of heights at Burma Rock and even take a walk to the Moon (349 meters above sea level). As a DMMH student, there is a high chance you'll end up on a field trip here.
Fadderuka - Freshmen week
During the Freshmen week you'll get many opportunities to get familiar with your new student city and your fellow students. Freshmen week is hosted by students from different higher education institutions.
Farmer's market
You'll find the farmer's market in the Trondheim plaza. Here, you'll find vegetables from Frosta, Trondheim's gardens, the legendary Trondheim strawberries and food sold directly from many local producers.
Festningen music festival
Festningen is a recently established festival hosted in the park area of Kristiansen fortress. The music profile is pop, EDM and urban. It's aimed at students as the audience and as volunteers.
Frisbee golf
Discgolf, eller frisbeegolf can be played at Dragvoll, Rotvoll or Øya. There are many frisbee golf fields in the city, so grab your old frisbee and try, both in summer and winter. If you want to give it a try, DMMH has placed 3 baskets in our campus park.
Fretex
Fretex is a second hand store with stores at Møllenberg and Nardo. Here you can find all kinds of bits and bobs. The Møllenberg store has an especially good retro clothing selection.
Frøset farm
Frøset farm is a small farm owned by DMMH. It's located by Leirsjøen, about a 20 minute walk from the parking lot at Granåsen. Some lectures will be held here, and each year there is a winter course and theatre festival at the farm.
The winter course teaches first year students how to create fun and engaging winter activities for children. The week concludes with a visit from kidnergarten children who will try all the play areas made by the students.
Summer is the time for exams and the theatre festival at Frøset. Kindergartens are also invited while students perform their own theatre plays in the outdoor area around the farm.
2. year students build a nature play area at Frøset each year which kindergartens in the area can use freely. There are also kayaks and barbeques available.

Gaming
Is there a gamer in you? Do you miss your gaming setup at home? Stop by Jotunheimen E-sport in Kjøpmannsgata! Here you can play on both old and new consoles, PC's, shuffleboard and e-sports on the big screen.
Gløshaugen
Gløshaugen is located by Berg/Lerkendal and is the central hub of technical diciplines at NTNU. The main building may remind you of Hogwarts, and the building was made to house NTH - in those times you would gather in Trondheim to find engineers.
Granåsen
Granåsen is Trondheim's main arena for all winter sports like ski jumping, cross country skiing and combined winter games. The World Cup is hosted here, and there are areas for land skiing and biathlon. DMMH employees are also known to enjoy cardiio in the long 438 step staircase leading up to the top of the ski jumping hill.
Granåsen is also used as a concert venue.
It is only a short walk from the parking lot at Granåsen up to Frøset farm.
Gråkall tram line
Gråkallbanen is Trondheim's only tram line. It services stops between Lian and St. Olavs gate in the center of town. It is a nice journey, and gives a great view of the city on its way up/down.
Gråkallen
Gråkallen is the tallest point in Bymarka. Here you'll find Skistua, a popular skii slope managed by Trondheim Ski Club. At the top of the mountain, the Air Force has a large radar dome.
Havet
Havet Arena is located at Nyhavna. Here you'll find multiple saunas and swimming areas. Havet also hosts concerts, design markets, outdoor cinema, sports broadcasts and more!
Humor
Trondheim has many scenes where local and international stand-up comedians give us their all. Keep an eye on what's happening in Olavshallen, Antikvariatet, Trondheim Spektrum and Samfundet.
"Høljregn" - Raining cats and dogs
Bring an umbrella, rain coat and boots. It's not an unfamiliar phenomenon in Trondheim (also known as a trøndersk summer day).
Ice cream
The soft serve ice cream at the Coop behind DMMH is known as the best in town. Right next to Solsiden you'll find Gola, where people will gladly queue up to taste Argentinian gelato.
Bubble waffles with brown cheese ice cream, vegan milkshake and belgian waffles are just some of the items available at Simen's Isbar. Simen is located at Ravnkloa, Brattøra nad Lade. And suddenly he'll just appear with his ice cream wagon in your local area.
The latest addition on the ice cream front is the ice cream bar Sundøy's at Trondheim Torg. Here, Alma Sundøy from Trondheim will serve ice cream based on the chocolate on offer in the shop.
Ilsvikøra and Ilabekken
Walk along the fjord from Pirbadet and towards Ilsvikøra. You can either walk along the fjord, or simply go for a swim on your way there, or walk along the old tree houses from the 1700s.
You can walk up towards Bymarka through Ilabekken, which connects Theisendammen, Baklidammen and Kobberdammen. Along Ilabekken, you can encounter foxes, deer, otters and White-throated dippers. The path goes from Ilsvikøra and nearly the entrire way to Theisendammen.
ISFIT
The international student festival in Trondheim ist he world's largest themed student festival with more than 500 participants. It's held every second year, and the Student's Peace Price is awarded at the festival.

Juba Juba
Juba Juba is the little sister of the Pstereo festival and fills the area around the foretress with many acitivies and concerts for children. Just like other festivals in the city, there's always a demand for students willing to volunteer for the festival.
Kjøpmannsgata Ung Kunst (K-U-K) - Young Art
Here you can make a real deal and secure art from an upcoming artist. You can experience conversations, concerts, visual art and performances. The famous artist Kjell Erik Killi-Olsen has establised a 1000 square meter art house with works from both famous and unknown artists. If you get hungry, you eat at the Gubalari restaurant.
Kosmorama
Kosmorama - Trondheim's international film festival - showcases films from acrosst he world. The Kanon Award is also awarded during the festival, the closest answer to an Oscar you'll encounter in Norway.
Kristiansten foretress and Småbergan
Kristiansten, or the foretress, are situated on the top of Bakklandet. The foretress is protected. The area around the foretress is named Småbergan and is an attractive area for recreation for Trondheim's public. You get a great view of Trondheim from the foretress, and there's also a café to visit here.
Kuhaugen
Kuhaugen is the closest neighbor of the Royal Norwegian Air Force Academy at Persaunet. Located 120 meters above sea level, surrounded by the forest, Kuhaugen is one of Trondheim's most romantic vistas. The cattle that used to graze the area belonged to Rønningen farm, which was very close to where DMMH is today.
Kunsthall Trondheim
Kunsthall Trondheim is the largest international arena for contemporary art in Trondheim and the Trøndelag region. Kunsthallen offers a varied program, including mediation for children and youth, workshops, concerts, performances, film screenings and lectures.
Kvilhaugen
Eatery and party venue at the top of Blussvoldsbakken, offering beer produced in-house and one of the city's best vistas.
Ladestien
Ladestien is a wide hiking path spanning 14 kilometers along the fjord from Korsvika towards Charlottenlund. Here, you can make a stop at Sponhuset for the best waffles in town, look for crabs in the shallows at Rotvollfjæra or shop ecological products at Landhandleren at Camphill Rotvoll. You can also visit the annual Viking market in Djupvika, or perhaps see a band at Ladekaia?
Lade Park
Lade Park was awarded "Best outdoor space in Norway" in 2013. The park is shaped like a circus and is also known as the Circus Park. The park is only a 10-15 minute walk from DMMH when heading towards the city.
Ladehammerfestivalen
Ladehammerfestivalen is a free entry festival with its own program for children during the daytime. In the evening, local bands perform.
The sculpture "Ladehammern" (EQUILIBRIO) is a large monument situated at the edge of the Ladehammer plateau. The German artist Rolf Schaffner has made four other EQUILIBRIO-monuments across Europe. Together, they form a peace cross which symbolizes balance and fellowship between different peoples and the planet we live on.
Ladejarlen
Ladejarlene ruled Lade farm in 5 generations from the end of the 800s. They had a lot of power, and together with the Danish king Harald Blåtann, ladejarlen Håkon Sigurdsson was the sole king of Norway. In the Korsvika Play, we follow Håkon Jarl from birth and into a bloody end.
Ladejarlen also has a gastro pub and pizzeria in Innherredsveien, with live music and quizes some nights.
The Ladejarl of today is Rema-Reitan, as Rema has their main seat at Lade farm.
Ladekaia
At Østmarkneset, practically in the ocean, you'll find the award winning eatery Ladekaia. Ladekaia offers simple dining, a collection of board games, quizes, concerts and the most beautiful view in the city.
Lager11
Lager11 at Sluppen is a new food venue in Trondheim, found only a stone's toss from Lerkendal student village. Here you'll find street food from many different countries. Additionally, Lager11 host clothing trade markets, family Sundays, workshops and festivals.
Lerkendal stadium
Lerkendal is the home turf of Rosenborg - Norway's best soccer team. Here there is party, well maintained by Kjernen supporter club.
Litteraturhuset
Litteraturhuset offers a wide range of culture events with literature at the core. The house is located in Kulturkvartalet in Kongens gate.
Lærerstudentene
Lærerstudentene is a sub-department of the Education Association, and have a local association at DMMH.

Makers Faire
Makers Faire is a family friendly festival which celebrates the joy of creating, creativity and inventions. If you're interested in technical gadgets, this is a festival you don't want to miss.
Marinen
Marinen is an open area below the cathedral. This is a great place to meet other students making the most of the sun on nearby grassy fields. It is also the home turf of the Pstereo festival.
Martnan
June is the time for Martnan in the streets surrounding the Trondheim plaza, with candy and food stalls aplenty. Here you'll find many things you didn't know you needed.
Michelin stars
Do you have a little money to spend? Credo, Fagn and Speilsalen at Britannia all have stars in the Michelin catalog, and have contributed to giving Trondheim a taste of something other than "trøndersodd". Additionally, Spontan has a recommended wine bar.
Mini golf
At Trondheim Camping you can try your hand at mini golf indoors while fully clothed, but once in a blue moon you can also try it fully nude.
Minimalen
This short film festival focuses on young talent and short films.
MiniUka
Every year, when UKA is taking place, SiT's kindergarten at Moholt hosts its own little mini version of UKA. This is a children's festival where DMMH students often contribute.
Mormors Stue
This café and bar is situated in Enkeltskillingsveita in the center of town. It is a popular gathering place for students, as Mormors offers student discounts and cake buffets. The locales may not look like your grandmother's living room, but if you skip back a generation you may notice a resemblance.
Musèene i Trondheim - Trondheim's museums
Here you'll find something for most tastes. Music history at Ringve, the Folk Museum at Sverresborg, Rockheim at Brattøra, Døvemusêet, The National Museum of Justice with old criminals, Nordenfjeldske Art Association, Gråmølna and many more!
In the summer, you can purchase a museum pass and get free access to all museum across the Trøndelag region.
Munkholmen
By taking a 10 minute boat ride from Ravnkloa, you will arrive at the old foretress and monestary cell at Munkholmen. Here you'll find beaches, cafès and an outdoor restaurant. Every summer, the amateur theatre group BUL performs a children's threatre play here.
Munkholmen is also mentioned in Viktor Hugo's unknown novel "Fangene på Munkholmen", telling the tale of Peder Griffenfeld and his imprisonment here for 18 years.
TheNeon festival
This festival was founded in 2022, at E.C.Dahls property. The festival aims to present Norwegian music together with international artists.
Nidar
Trondheim has had its own chocolate production since 1912, when Nidar was founded. The factory outlet is only a short walk from DMMH, where you'll find many tasty treats at discountet prices.
Nidaros
Olav Tryggvason was crowned as king in Trondheim in 995, and 2 years later he founded the city of Nidaros. The city has swapped names between Trondhjem, Trondheim and Nidaros, and scholars still debate whether it was Trondheim or Nidaros which was the original name of the city.
Nidaros Cathedral
The Nidaros Cathedral, lovingly named Domkirka by the public, is the city's pride and joy. The cathedral is Norway's national shrine. Saint Olaf is buried here, and thousands of pilgrims visit annually. The crown jewels are kept at the museum in Erkebispegården which is right next door to the cathedral.
Concerts are hosted regularily in the cathedral, both with its own choirs, such as the famous Nidaros Cathedral Boys' Choir, as well as hired artists.
The cathedral is almost 1000 years old, and is the central hub of the Olavsfest festival.
Nidelva
Nidelva cuts straight through Trondheim, and offers paddling, river surfing, sightseeing boats and salmon fishing. Near Leirfossen, you'll find a popular outdoor space which is a short walk from the center of town.

Cheap furniture and kitchen tools in the center of Sommerveita near the plaza.
Norway's best student city
None above, none besides. Students in Trondheim have awarded the city as the best student city in Norway multiple times. Industry, the municipality and higher education institutions have collaborated well to defend the title.
NTNU
NTNU is Norway's largest university, and has multiple campuses across the city.
Olav Tryggvason's statue
Saint Olaf is regarded as Trondheim's founder. The king played an important role in the christening of Norway. Saint Olaf's statue is now safely placed in the Trondheim Plaza. The statue is also the world's largest sun dial.
Olavsfestdagene
Olavsfestdagene is an annual festival in July-August, with the main events taking place by the Nidaros Cathedral. There are activities for children, market stalls, pilgrim walks, concerts, mass and meetings. The festival aims to be a platform for reflection in the intersection of religion and society.
Olavshallen
Olavshallen is in the center of town, and is Trondheim's cultural hub. Here, you'll find everything from opera performances, stand-up comedy and concerts with Trondheim's symphonic orchestra, a record shop, eateries, Cinemateket and Trondheim film club. In the food court you can choose from cheap and tasty food from different restaurants.

Padel
If you like tennis and squash, this combination is right up your alley. Padel uses the walls from squash and the scoring system from tennis. Padel venues are found at Lade, Rosten and Nyhavna.
Parks
When the sun shines it's time for parks and recreation. Trondheim does not have the largest parks, but we have many of them across the city. Gåsaparken in bakklandet, the foretress, Ila park, Marinen, Sirkusparken, Lamoparken and many more. Find yourself a green patch and enjoy the summer!
Parkour
Are you about to hit a wall? Together with Trondheim Parkour, you can run over or roll under it.
Pirbadet
Pirbadet has everything from massage baths, athletic pools and outdoor pools. For their final opening hour of the day, the price is lowered.
Planetarium
The only 3D planetarium in Norway is found at Vitensenteret, near the Trondheim main library.
Pstereo festival
The name Pstereo comes from the pride of Trondheim - Dum Dum Boys and their 1990s albums. The festival focuses on rock, pop and synth, and has a strong environmental profile. After the end of the official program at Marinen and all persons above 40 have gone home, there are club concerts at the city's pubs.
Quinoa
At Etikken, you can purchase quinoa and other produce in your own containers. The selection in this shop has an ethical and environmental profile.
Quiz
If you're a quiz fan, Trondheim has many venues just for you. You don't need to travel further than Studentkroa on campus, but there are also many places in town that offer quiz.
Ramen
Any ramen lover should pay a visit to Koie Ramen in the city centre. Rumors say they have the best ramen in town.
Otherwise, Edoramen at Lilleby and Four at Olavstorvet offer delicious ramen.
Ravnkloa
From here, you can catch the ferry to Munkholmen. In the summer you can ring the bell for "fløtmannen" to transport you across the canal to Fosenkaia. The view stretches all the way to the Fosen Alps one way, and the Nidaros Cathedral the other.

The men and women in black and white beat most other teams on the field. Everybody loves Rosenborg!
Rosendal Theatre
Rosendal theatre in Innherredsveien offers unique theatre experiences, a cafè and bar, concerts and festivals.

Sand volleyball
More and more people have discovered the joy of sand between their toes. There are fields at Bergheim, Blussvoll, Lade, Djupvika, Jakobsli, Tiller and more. Bring a ball and a pal and you're all set.
Second hand shops
Trondheim is brimming with second hand shops. The largest is Brukom, where you'll find everything except clothing. Brukom is located at Nyhavna and is run by Trondheim Renholdsverk. Items discarded at Heggstadmoen are repaired and sold for cheap.
In the city centre there are multiple second hand shops. NMS Gjenbruk, Sirkulus, Gjenbruken, Fretex and Transit.
Sellanraa Bok and Bar
This pleasant book cafè is found at the top of Søndre gate, in between the Trondheim Library, Kunsthallen and Litteraturhuset. Here, you can both browse and purchase books, catch a debate or book release or other cultural events.
SiT
SiT isthe student organization in Trondheim. They can help you with housing accommodation, free courses, kindergartens, dentists, medical help, access to gyms and the DMMH cafeteria. They're here for you!
Skating on ice
You can ice skate in the centre of town, at Leangen skating hall, and on many of the lakes in Trondheim - as long as the ice is safe.
Solsiden
Solsiden was constructed on top of the old Trondheim Mechanical Workshop by the canal, and has kept its rough exterior. The area is actually called Nedre Elvehavn, but is now called Solsiden ("The Sun Side") in the hope of its namesake showing itself. "Spel" - local historical theatre
All cities, towns and villages with an ounce of self respect will of course have its own local historical theatre. There are many of them in Trøndelag, its big brother naturally being the theatre about Saint Olaf at Stiklestad.
In Trondheim we have our own variant, The Battle of Stiklestad. Korsvikaspillet Håkon and Kark offer viking fights and ladejarler, with music beautifully done by Frode Fjellheim who was also behind the opening track of Disney's Frozen.
Stiftsgården
Trondheim is an old capital, and it is only fair that Trondheim also has the largest wooden palace in Northern Europe to houset he royal family when they visit. The building has over 140 rooms spread across 4000 square meters. You can also find traces from the crowning of Haakon the VII and Queen Maud in 1906.
Stiftsgården is located right next to the plaza and is open for tours in the summer season.
Studentersamfundet
Studentersamfundet, or Samfundet, is the large red building next to the Elgeseter bridge. Students have gathered here for nearly 100 years. Samfundet is run by over 20 different groups who are responsible for everything from debate meetings, cooking, serving beer, bookings, theatre, photography etc. Every fall, the groups will have auditions. At Samfundet, all students gather from all higher education institutions in Trondheim.
Every two years, Samfundet host UKA - thje world's longest week - to raise money for maintainence. One of the highlights of UKA is the theatres with actors from Samfundet's Internal Theatre.
Samfundet is also the home of Strindens Promenade Orchestra, who are easily spotted in their checkered jeans and decorated vests. They're known to appear in both suitable and unsuitable places. There orchestra with its 12 members have a world record in performing Stars and Stripes (50.6 sec, compared to the usual 3.50 00 sec), which they do at all celebratory meetings at Samfundet.
Studentparlamentet
Studentparlamentet at DMMH has representatives from all classes at the University College. They're focused on improving conditions for students.
Svartlamon
Svartlamon is Trondheim's alternative district. Here you'll find a rich cultural scene with concert venues, eateries, the free shop, recycling centers and a kindergarten. The area is regulated as an ecological trial area of the city and has a mix of housing types.
Sometimes, the culture- and rock festival Eat the Rich is hosted at Svartlamon. The festival is free, and showcases local bands that may also perform at Uffa.
Technology Capital
Trondheim is Norway's answer to Silicon Valley, and has a large technology community with its roots in NTNU. Over 700 technology companies are based in the city.
Tops to visit
The tallest top in Bymarka is Storheia, situated at 565 meters above sea level. It offers a great view of Trondheim and the surrounding areas. Other popular mountains to hike are Våttakammen and Geitfjellet.
The absolute tallest mountain is found to the south, in old Klæbu municipality. Here lies Kråkfjellet at 817 meters above sea level.
Trondheim's tourist association has many suggested hikes of varying difficulties, and also host "Topp 7", Trondheim's best hike. The hike is 30 km and will visit 7 mountain tops in Bymarka.
Trondheim Plaza
At the plaza you'll find the statue of Saint Olaf, concerts, restaurants, markets, the christmas market and the farmer's market.
Transform, Trondheim international festival
This festival aims to bridge the gap between cultures with concerts, seminars and conversations.
Transit
Second hand furniture at a good price. Transit is located in the city centre. They offer repairing services, and is a great place to hunt for hidden treasures. The store also accepts donations of old things. During the start of the semester, Transit has a large sales stall in Mohold student village.
Trondheim Calling
Trondheim Calling is a festival with seminars, workshops and concerts with up and coming bands.
Trondheim film club
The oldest film club in Norway. Screenings are hosted at Cinemateket. Trondheim also has a children's film club.
Trondheim Chamber Music Festival
In addition to chamber music in all shapes and sizes, this festival aims to combine art forms like literature, music, dance, music, gastronomy and music, visual art and music and more. The festival has grown to become one of the most important chamber music festivals in the world. If you're one of the lucky ones, you'll experience a concert in your own home.

Trøndelag Theatre
Trøndelag Theatre is the oldest theatre in Northern Europe that's been in use continuously. The theatre has 5 stages.
Trønderrock
Trøndelag has always had a strong music scene, and the trønder rock encompasses names such as Tre små kinesere, Motorpsycho, Dum Dum Boys, John Doe, Stage Dolls, Gåte TNT, Rotmo, Cadillac, Spidergawd, The Kids, Tysland, Cora Sandel and DDE.
No tears remain unshed when the godfather of trønder rock, Åge Aleksandersen, sings along to the national anthem "Trondheimsnatt". Åge is presented in Rockheim Hall of Fame.
Tråante
Tråante is the South Sami name for Trondheim.
Throgh collaboration between Trondheim municipality and DMMH, a Sami language and culture chest has been developed. This can be borrowed by kindergartens and schools in Trondheim.
As Norway's first, Sverresborg museum introduced South Sami culture and history in their collections in 1935. As their focus areas, they've had a focus on Sami history in their exhibitions and events ever since.
The first Sami join meeting was held in Trondheim in 1917, and the city was also the host for the 100th anniversary of this meeting.
Tyholttårnet
Tyholttårnet houses the only rotating restaurant in Norway. At the top of this 120 meter tall radio tower, you can eat pizza buffet at Egon while the world slowly moves along. The tower is next to NRK Tyholt.
UFFA
UFFA (Youth for independent activity) is a self run youth house with a strong political awareness. Here you'll find Matlaus, the cheapest vegetarian restaurant in town. UFFA hosts multiple concerts, often punk and hardcore. Bands such as Motorpsycho has its origins in UFFA and the community at Svartlamon.
UKA
UKA is the largest and oldest student week in Norway, and has been hosted for over 100 years. It is also Norway's largest cultural festival. During a 3 week period, Trondheim fills with different events, centered around Ukerevyen in the city centre. National and international artists fill both small and large concert venues.
UKA is hosted every two years, and is run by volunteers. The city's students run all events. Jobs for UKA are posted in the autumn semester and are very popular. All proceeds go towards upkeep of Studentersamfundet.

Vassfjellet
Vassfjellet Winter Park in Klæbu is south of the city. The ski resort has 12 different slopes of varying difficulty. On Fridays, a ski shuttle bus can be used from Trondheim central stations by students.
Vegan
More and more restaurants have vegan dishes on the menu. We recommend trying Hagen in Thomas Angells gate.
Velferdstinget - The welfare council
The welfare council's duty is to promote and improve welfare services for students. They decide how the semester fee is to be used and has a voice in how SiT should prioritize. The owner organization of the council is Studenttinget NTNU, Studentparlamentet DMMH, Studentersamfunn BI, Trondheim Justice Students' Association and Fagskolen Innlandet.

Vinly records are back, and the most pleasant record shop, All Good, Clean Records is located in Innherredsveien, 5 minutes from DMMH.
In Olavshallen you'll find Crispin Glover Records, Aftermath Music is near Leutenhaven, and Todal Musikk and hermetikk at Svartlamon.
Vudu
An 18+ plus club at the end of Nordre Gate.
Walk of Peace
In Jomfrugata you'll find names of the Student Peace Price winners, which is awarded during the ISFIT festival.
Work Work
Work Work is both a work fellowship and a cafè with board games and shuffleboard. Many of the developers of new games have their offices in the upstairs floor, and you could get the chance to try your hand at upcoming games. Flipper games and their own gaming bar gives many opportunities to play the night away.
X - Laser X
Lasermaxx in Fossegrenda, Megazone at Heggstadmoen and Arena Trondheim at Lade offers many activities such as paint ball, go-cart and laser-X.

Zumba
Zumba, aikido, volleyball and curling - no matter what you want to try there is a place to do it in Trondheim. As well as DMMH's own athletics team and SiT's gym, there's multiple gyms and sports clubs in the city.
Øya
Øya is a half island right below Studentersamfundet. You'll find the emergency room and St. Olavs hospital here. You'll also find Trondheim Spektrum, which has large handball courts and concerts.
Åfjord
Right above the fjord is the Fosen half island. Here you'll find unique coastal landscapes where the mountains cut straight into the ocean. Åfjord is one of the largest municipality's in Fosen and is the namesake of the legendary Åfjord pizza with cabbage and mussels.
In the summer, the fishing festival Bessaker takes place, and further south in the municipality you'll find the beautiful Stokkøya - a true beach paradise.
