Welcome to our international students

Last week 17 new students arrived at QMUC.
All of them will follow the course "Norwegian Early Childhood Education and Care, Theory and Practice", and some of them  will stay on to follow "Outdoor Play and Learning in Norwegian Early Childhood Education. "

The students come from Slovakia, Ireland, France, South Africa, Portugal and Belgium.

They were welcomed by Siri Haug, from the International Office at QMUC, and some of their teachers.

The first day they got to get to know each other, and the University college. They also got to see a film introducing the Norwegian National Curriculum Regulations for KindergartenTeacher Education.

- An important part of the course is that you also learn from each other, said professor Arve Gunnestad to the new students.

Assistant Professor Marit Hallset Svare is responsible for the courses. She says that the course is very focused on practical training.

- The language barrierer is not a problem. The students know a bit of Norwegian and they will learn more from the children that they meet. We have found that you can communicate well through body language too.

By attending an international course the students learn that there are several ways of doing things, she continues. - It is important for teachers to have an understanding of different cultures,  that is also why we send our own students abroad.
