LUBA - Teacher education kindergarten project

The education for kindergarten teachers must be relevant to the field of practice. Aspiring kindergarten teachers need to acquire the knowledge that is essential for the kindergarten sector, now and in the future.

Teacher education kindergartens

The initiative involving teacher education kindergartens (LUBA) serves as a means to forge a closer connection between the kindergarten sector and higher education. This aims to enhance the education of kindergarten teachers and bolster the practical relevance of DMMH through research and development activities. Additionally, the project seeks to elevate competence within kindergartens.

Close collaboration between the field of practice and the university college

The idea behind the teacher education kindergarten project is that higher demands should be placed on the collaboration between the kindergarten teacher education at the university college and the teacher education kindergartens, compared to other practice kindergartens.

DMMH has entered into a collaboration with two larger kindergartens (Sit and Granåsen) in Trondheim and has a close collaboration on developing good arrangements for practice for kindergarten teachers, developing teaching at the college, and co-creating good and relevant research on kindergarten and kindergarten teacher education in cooperation with several kindergartens in Trondheim. DMMH is the coordinator and owner of the project.

The national strategy for quality and cooperation in teacher education "Teacher Education 2025" highlights the importance of establishing stable and mutually developing collaborations between teacher education institutions and the kindergarten sector. One of the focus areas is to strengthen practice training, research and development (FoU) collaboration through the establishment of teacher education kindergartens.

From autumn of 2022, two PhD candidates have been employed in the project, with a third candidate hired in 2023. Additionally, six smaller scholarships of 160 hours each have been allocated to lecturers at DMMH to conduct research projects in co-creation with the kindergartens - several of these scholarships were renewed in 2024 and continue until the spring of 2025.

The purpose is to make the education more practice-relevant through research and co-creation.

In addition, we have a trial with shadow practice where Master's students get to shadow a leader in one of the kindergartens as part of linking the study with the practice field. Several other types of co-creation and research are being developed along the way. More about what we do here.
