Project summary:
This collaboration project between Queen Maud University College for Early Childhood Education (DMMH, Norway) and Stadio School of Education (STADIO, South Africa) will enhance the joint capacity to provide relevant, high-quality education on leadership for sustainable development in multicultural societies in the field of Early Childhood Education (ECE). The UN SDG Goal 4.2 reaffirms the international community’s focus on a strong education foundation for children through ECE. This focus requires educational institutions to provide future educators with the competence necessary for learning and leading a culture of sustainability.
The SDG 4.2 and leadership in ECE form the core mutual and strategic interests in the partnership between STADIO and QMUC. The strength of this partnership is anchored in over 20 years of collaboration. In multicultural contexts like South Africa and increasingly Norway, ECE plays a pivotal role as a foundation for lifelong learning and social integration. The Learning to Lead project has an ambition to develop an international perspective-driven study programme and a virtual platform that will promote multiculturally-based leadership training for sustainable development in ECE. The project aims to enhance the quality of the exchange programme between STADIO and QMUC, develop innovative learning methods, engage with research-based knowledge co-production, and scale up our contribution to the SDG 4 focusing on ECE, as well as SDG 17, partnership for the goals. Based on our mutual interests, we want to expand the ongoing cooperation between QMUC and STADIO by reaching more students, lecturers and target groups. Our long experience in working together provides a strong foundation for a successful project. The project results will be available to the public through teaching and learning materials, scientific publications and online media.
