Children's Culture and Art Education

The research group Children's Culture and Art Education serves as an interdisciplinary, cross-aesthetic platform for individuals interested in the significance and function of children's culture, art, and art education in the context of children's play, learning, and development.

The participants of the research group come from the fields of music, drama, art and crafts (design), Norwegian, mathematics, and pedagogy at DMMH. The research group's scope includes kindergartens, primary schools, and cultural schools, as well as other cultural and art pedagogical arenas for children. The group is led by Professor Marit Holm Hopperstad.

Focus

The members of the research group share a common interest in art and culture as a vibrant and integrated part of children's lives in kindergarten, school, and during leisure time. The group is particularly concerned with questions and issues related to the dimensions of culture for, by, and with children, and the possible relationships and tensions between these, children's encounters with artistic expressions and processes in the art arena, pedagogical art processes and expressions in kindergarten/school, and the relationship between play and art/art and pedagogy/artist and educator.

Education, play, wonder, meaning-making, dialogue, text, and multimodality are examples of unifying concepts for the group. The research group employs various research methods and theoretical perspectives, conducts research in different arenas, and uses a diversity of publication and dissemination forms to share knowledge and experiences within children's culture and art pedagogy.

The members' publications are registered in Cristin and may be listed on each individual's profile.

Participants

Professor Marit Holm Hopperstad is the group's primary contact.
